Welcome to S'Port Alberni, the web site dedicated to Port Alberni and the surrounding Alberni Valley sports and recreation facilities, participants, spectators, organizers and supporters.

Centrally located on beautiful Vancouver Island, Port Alberni is nestled within the scenic grandeur of the Alberni Valley in the Clayoquot Region of the Pacific Rim. Circled by majestic, snow-covered peaks and located at the head of the Alberni Inlet fjord, Port Alberni boasts sea to sky adventure and recreational opportunities for all.  

The Alberni Valley's population of approximately 18,000 boast a tireless community spirit. A particular dedication to youth, fitness and lifestyle have allowed local residents to support the development of a myriad of centrally located sports and recreation facilities. Echo Aquatic and Fitness Centre 

  • The Echo Centre is a versatile facility offering public swimming, swim lessons, a sauna, whirlpool and a full fitness and exercise studio. The centre regularly hosts swim meets and championships and is a great place for family recreation and fun!

  • The city's two rings facilitate a variety of equestrian activities and events such a dressage and show jumping. An enthusiastic equestrian community will welcome your participation.

  • Be it soccer, rugby, or field hockey Port Alberni's outdoor turf fields offer well-maintained and versatile venues for a variety of active and exciting field sports.

Fishing

  • Blessed by its' location on the scenic Alberni Inlet, Port Alberni is a city where fishing is a local obsession. Christened "Salmon Capital of the World", the area boasts a plethera of marinas, charter operators and outfitters to ensure you land a big one.

General Recreation
The Glenwood Centre

  • The versatile Glenwood Centre is the perfect venue for virtually any sporting or non-sporting event. The multi-purpose facility boasts 14,000 sq. ft of floor space and can accommodate any activity from indoor rock-climbing to rollerblading. The full banquet facility has hosted hundreds of social events and seats up to 550 people.

Hockey
2 NHL-Regulation Size Ice Sheets

  • Home to the BCHL's Alberni Valley Bulldogs hockey team, the Multiplex is a twin sheet, multi-purpose arena offering residents and visitors a first-class recreation facility. The main Weyerhauser Arena seats 1850 in the bleacher area with room for an additional 1400 seats on the main floor. The adjacent Coulsen Rink seats 200 in the bleachers and benches. Whether it be ice sports such as championship hockey, ice skating, or curling or social events like concerts, trade shows or public finctions the A.V Multiple offers functionality and versatility.

Mt. Arrowsmith backcountry area 

  • Nature's beauty abounds in Port Alberni. In summer months, Sproat Lake offers recreation seekers a great spot to swim and is a lively locale for water skiing, wind surfing, boating, sailing, canoeing and a myriad of other water sports activities. Nearby, Mt. Arrowsmith provides a challenging hike up the famed Judges Route to its' summit. Backcountry skiing, technical climbing, camping, or day hiking- the opportunities are endless.

Wrestling and Martial Arts
1 Wrestling Club 

  • The local Wrestling Club provides a venue for wrestling as well as a variety of martial arts activities. No doubt 2008 Olympic wrestling hopeful Travis Cross has spent many an hour on the mats here.
