THE GREAT OUTDOORS!

Whether you are an expert or neophyte the Alberni Valley is an outdoor enthusiast's dream!  Recreation opportunities are boundless from fly-fishing for wild sockeye salmon in the pristine waters of the Stamp River to snow-shoeing fresh powder in the rugged backcountry wilderness of Mount Arrowsmith, there is something for all passions and pocketbooks.

For all you "water-babies"--wakeboarding on Sproat Lake and windsurfing on the Alberni Inlet are favourites. For a somewhat more peaceful adventure canoeing and kayaking are always popular. Canoeing tours hosted by First Nation paddlers and interpreters are available, as are multi-day all inclusive adventures.

Sproat Lake is relatively warm year-round and its sandy beaches provide a safe haven for families and recreational boaters of all kinds.

Camping at several Provincial Parks and private campgrounds including those at Stamp River and Sproat Lake make for a wonderful, and affordable, vacation. All our campgrounds get busy in the summer, so be sure to book ahead to reserve your site.

Intrepid hikers enjoy an endless variety of trails, routes and technical climbs in nearby Mt. Arrowsmith backcountry area. Closer to home, the Log Train Trail is an easy hike for the less ambitious. Great for mountain bikers too!

Some of the most challenging mountain bike trails are easily accessible from Port Alberni. Check out the local bike stores for the latest info on the sweetest rides.

Or why not just kick back and relax amid the scenic beauty of the Alberni Valley?
